v26.7Improved

Chat and the page sit side by side

I opened the book. Chat stayed in its own column. The page held the tools. Full screen was just the writing.

Desk
  • The book name and chapter stay on the chat side, so the chapter never spills onto the page.
  • Hide chat from the header. Full screen is the page only.
  • Format opens over the page when you need it, then tucks away.
  • Export and Publish are buttons on the page.

September 2026

  1. v26.6Improved

The desk uses one set of controls

I picked a type, searched my shelf, and signed in. Every button and field sat on the same quiet kit.

    Desk
    • Home type chips and search match the rest of the desk — same hits, same press.
    • Community filters and empty states use the same chips and quiet copy.
    • Sign-in and billing fields match the dialog kit. No tall marketing inputs on the desk.
    • Errors and delete stay one family of notices and overlay buttons.
  2. v26.5Improved

    The page got quiet

I opened the book. Rails stayed out of the way until I needed them. Format sat on the paper. I asked CoAuthor for a diagram and kept writing.

    DeskAgent
    • Pins are icons. Collapse lives on the rail, not the account cluster.
    • Format and insert sit on the paper — one row, not a parade of labels.
    • Highlight a line and ask CoAuthor to write it aligned, illustrated, or as a diagram.
    • Phone still collapses from the header. Desktop collapse lives on the split.

  1. v26.4New

Your book is on your phone now

I closed the laptop mid-sentence. Opened Typewriter on the phone. The same chapter was waiting. I kept writing.

    Desk
    • Tap a book. Write the next scene. Same manuscript as the desk. Nothing to transfer.
    • Chapters slide in from the side. CoAuthor from the bottom. Built for a thumb.
    • Home, Books, Inbox. Put it down. Pick it up tomorrow. Autosave already saved.
    • Import a draft. Invite a reader. Generate files. Phone sheets, not a squeezed desk.
  2. v26.3New

Your book can have a room now

Google Docs share is one blob of access. Typewriter gives each person a seat: coauthor, editor, beta reader, or publisher.

    Desk
    • Invite by email from People on the manuscript. They get a private link, not a ZIP of chapters.
    • Four seats: coauthor writes live, editor suggests (you accept), beta highlights, publisher reads.
    • Beta matching opens a thread when it clicks, so notes don’t die in email.
    • You stay editor-in-chief. They never silently own the page.
  3. v26.2Improved

CoAuthor walks the book with you

You used to re-explain the cast every turn. Now CoAuthor keeps the bible, the map, and the chapter you are in — and works from there.

    DeskAgent
    • Tools for story bible cards, characters, map pins, and chapter craft — one partner across the desk.
    • Sharper context: pins, @chapter / @selection, and handoff so CoAuthor aims at the right words.
    • Bible cast desk — detail sheet, mentions in the manuscript, portraits that re-roll when you ask.
    • Activity trail in plain language — what CoAuthor is doing, not tool names or eng jargon.
  4. v26.1New

Write in your language — native craft, not translation slop

Set the book’s language, type Roman→native with more scripts, and CoAuthor drafts like a local author — not a stiff translator.

    DeskAgent
    • Book language on the write desk — CoAuthor keeps writing in Hindi, Spanish, Japanese, and more.
    • Typing IME expands: Kannada, Malayalam, Arabic, Persian, Russian, Chinese pinyin, Japanese, Korean, and more.
    • Ask “write this chapter in Punjabi” — native idiom and register, then you Accept as usual.
    • Settings → Writing: manuscript language + typing IME + learned dictionary in one place.

July 2026

  1. v26.0Improved

A calmer desk — full tools, fewer nags

Story bible, map, and series stay where you left them. Software Update lives in Settings. Writing stays the point.

    Desk
    • Story bible, relationship map, series, and collab when you have full tools.
    • Software Update in Settings — one place for release notes and install.
    • New accounts: a week of full tools to try, then free writing forever.
    • Typewriter+ is own-once for full tools and Mac when it ships.
  2. v1.8New

First page, first draft — CoAuthor meets you there

New books open ready to write. Blank pages can start an opening scene you Accept. Reject? Try again. Mac can pull cloud books home.

    DeskAgent
    • New manuscript → desk with CoAuthor ready to draft your opening (you still Accept).
    • Empty page CTA: “Write opening with CoAuthor” — one tap, proposal on the page.
    • Stronger free opening drafts — concrete place, want, problem; no outline dump.
    • Mac Sync: pull a cloud book onto this machine (push was already there).
  3. v1.7Improved

Chat that steers the desk — mission, jump, verify

CoAuthor keeps a mission checklist, can jump selection on the page, and a second pass checks the draft before you Accept.

    AgentDesk
    • Mission strip in the dock — done, pending Accept, what’s next after multi-step work.
    • @selection and @chapter in the composer — point CoAuthor at exactly what you mean.
    • Desk follows chat: jump chapter, select a span, focus a proposal, undo last Accept.
    • Verifier pass on drafts — continuity and voice flags before you commit.
  4. v1.6Improved

Smarter CoAuthor — revise, gas, and honest drafts

Reject a draft and try again smarter. Critique stays light. Big jobs still go deep — without burning the room on empty loops.

    AgentDesk
    • After Reject: Revise · Shorter · More atmosphere — CoAuthor learns what you didn’t want.
    • Paste a chapter outline → it becomes a draft on the page (Accept still required).
    • Right gas for the job: quick critique doesn’t spin tools; multi-chapter still gets a full run.
    • No fake victory — drafts wait for Accept, activity trail stays in plain language.
  5. v1.5Improved

One CoAuthor — proof, covers, and a cleaner desk

One partner in the dock. When the bible updates, you see the names. Covers and narration start from chat when you’re ready.

    AgentDesk
    • Proof when work lands — bible names listed, no bare “Done.” without a real change.
    • One CoAuthor dock — no swapping agents. Cover ideas and Narrate chips when those power-ups are on.
    • Ask to merge character cards, reorder chapters, or open bible/map from chat — desk follows.
    • Privacy: Help improve CoAuthor (optional) under Settings — off by default, your book stays yours.
  6. v1.4Improved

Done means done — bible, Accept, and the trail

CoAuthor stops claiming victory when nothing landed. You see the steps, the bible cards, and Accept that matches the page.

    AgentDesk
    • Story bible that actually fills — whole cast, not just the lead. A toast when cards land so you’re not guessing.
    • Activity trail in the dock: what CoAuthor did stays after the turn, in plain author language — not tool names.
    • Accept from chat matches Accept on the page. Stop mid-run. Autorun really writes the big drafts.
    • Sticky chips after you start: keep writing, update bible, continuity, research — one tap, no retyping.
  7. v1.3New

CoAuthor knows the product — and your room

Ask about Typewriter in the dock. See week room left on a quiet gas wheel. Smarter context, same propose-only trust.

    Agent
    • Gas wheel in the dock — week room left at a glance (Free included).
    • Product answers in chat — pricing, propose/accept, how room works — without leaving the desk.
    • Tighter context: CoAuthor loads what the turn needs, not the whole book every time.
    • Live research when your seat includes it — sources you can weave or park in the bible.
  8. v1.2New

Your book lives on your Mac first

Open Typewriter offline. Write without an account. Cloud and CoAuthor when you want them — never as a hostage.

    Desk
    • Local library on this Mac — new book, chapters, autosave. No login wall.
    • Native menu bar, draggable chrome, window memory. Feels like a real Mac desk.
    • Cloud desk stays one click away when you want sync or collab.
    • CoAuthor is still a subscription for AI only — your manuscript never depends on it.
  9. v1.1New

The chapter finally has a control panel

Less hunting. More writing. CoAuthor still only proposes.

    DeskAgent
    • Inspector on the open chapter — status, label, synopsis, word target, jump to snapshots without leaving the page.
    • Research shelf for notes and sources. Dig with CoAuthor, then weave into the scene or pin it in the bible.
    • Export that looks like a book: title page, copyright, dedication, author / ISBN / publisher. DOCX, EPUB, or PDF.
    • Series the agent can actually use — shared canon, volume progress, and a one-click series brief for CoAuthor.
  10. v1.0New

An agent that proposes. You keep the keys.

CoAuthor writes a change. You accept or reject. Nothing steals the page.

    AgentDesk
    • Propose only — no silent overwrites of your manuscript.
    • Ask · Partner · Agent: think with me, get prose, or run multi-step tools on the book.
    • Story bible and relationship map live in the loop, not a side chat that never read chapter 12.
    • Room that resets (day + week). Free taste on fast models before you subscribe.
